Shigeki Tanaka 17 Layer Damascus Gyuto 180mm (185mm)
Hammer forged by Shigeki Tanaka in Miki city, Hyogo prefecture. Tanaka’s family forge has been operating for over a hundred years producing tools and cutlery, originally, they specialized in forging sickles.
Made from a 17-layer damascus laminate with VG-10 steel, VG-10 is a super steel made for cutlery in Japan and contains Chromium, Vanadium, Molybdenum and Cobalt. It is considered a “Super Steel” as it has particularly good wear resistance, sharpness, and hardness. The blade is forged thin for superior cutting performance and has an attractive matte finish.
