Visited Sakai PART 2 – The Home of Japanese Knives!
Hello again! It’s Tomo here!!
Today, I’d like to introduce the company I visited this time – Yamawaki Cutlery MFG., LTD.

This company produces many traditional carbon steel single-bevel knives, such as the Deba, Yanagiba, and Usuba.

🔪 Kichiji Josaku Yanagiba 300mm Octagonal Red Wood Handle
🔪 Kichiji Josaku Edo Usuba 195mm Magnolia Wood Handle
…and more!
That means, of course, our single-bevel knives come directly from Sakai City, the birthplace of traditional Japanese knife craftsmanship!
Tomomi wrote about this back in August — you can read more here:

When I visited, they kindly gave me a tour of their sharpening factory.
That’s where I spotted something surprising — the blades were immersed in a green liquid! 😳
They explained that the green colour comes from a solvent used to prevent rusting.
So interesting!
The hand-sharpening area is set at a lower level, which is part of the traditional workshop design — such a cool sight!
There were visitors coming in one after another.
Yamawaki Cutlery welcomes everyone to see their sharpening process, but some people arrive without a booking, which keeps the staff incredibly busy!
So if you plan to visit, please make sure to book a reservation in advance. 🤗
