Ms Mishio Suzuki's ceramics is based on curiosty and an open-minded exploration of form. Interested initially in German and European product design, time spent living there allowed Ms Suzuki to notice the richness of her home region's ceramic tradition. On returning to Kasama, Ibaraki prefecture, she began training, in part as an apprentice to master potter Mr Akio Nukaga before establishing her own kiln in 2006. Now with her own kiln and studio, she embarks on ceramic journeys. Inspired by nature she sees locally, or by the colours she saw on her travels. Her inspiration comes through in the blueish white lattice of her 'lux' series, the dew-like soft forest green of 'laur' and much more besides.
This large bowl is with its carved leaf like design, and balance a sense of nature with a modern elegance.
